Chelsea Clinton is a nappy-headed ho…

Unless something has changed that I don’t know about, the First Amendment protects freedom of speech, press, religion, assembly and petition. And someone needs to remind Bill and Hillary Clinton.

The perennially politically clever Clintons are currently feining their outrage and making political hay and much ado about nothing over an MSNBC commentators’ off the cuff remark this past weekend.

NBC news reporter David Shuster, filling in for Tucker Carlson on Carlson’s MSNBC show “Tucker,” asked, “Doesn’t it seem like Chelsea is sort of being pimped out in some weird sort of way?” referring to her current role in her mother’s presidential campaign.

Subsequently, due to the whining and crying of Hillary Clinton and the Clinton campaign, Shuster has been suspended from all NBC network appearances other than to issue his apology. He also apologized to the Clinton family.

NBC News President Steve Campus issued a statement saying: “David Shuster… made a comment about Chelsea Clinton and the Clinton campaign that was irresponsible and inappropriate…NBC News takes these matters seriously, and offers our sincere regrets to the Clintons for the remarks.”

Give me a break. Once again the mainstream media falls to its knees to please the Clintons. And no one is surprised.

Hillary has also threatened to boycott an upcoming MSNBC debate over the remark. To that I say fine. Let her. Give the entire time to Barack Obama and see how she likes that. Go ahead Steve Campus, call her bluff, grow a spine.

This silly sidebar to the current campaign is simply further proof that the world has become far too sensitive about what people say and apparently forgotten the childhood saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me.”

I doubt that Chelsea is off in a corner somewhere crying her eyes out over the remark. Chelsea Clinton is now 27 years old. She is not the akward and innocent little 13-year-old that moved into the White House many moons ago.

Not since Don Imus’ “nappy-headed ho” comment have I seen so much “outrage” over something so unimportant. But it makes a nice distraction to Hillary sinking like a stone in the current campaign now doesn’t it?

The Clintons have a strictly-enforced “hands-off” policy on the media interviewing Chelsea. But at the same time she’s popping on the campaign trail more often than a camera crew at a ballot box. Once again, the double-standard is deafening.

Was Shuster’s use of “pimped-out” the best way to phrase the question? Certainly not. But should he be suspended indefinitely over it? Again, certainly not. This game of “you offended me now you must pay with full punishment” needs to stop. It leads nowhere and certainly not to improved intercourse among adults in a civilized society.

Perhaps Hillary should take heed of one of the favorite sayings of former President Harry S. Truman: “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.”

Clinton’s supposed outrage and Shuster’s punishment personifies that other old saying, “Hell hath no fury like a woman losing a political campaign for president.”
