Anyone who watched Friday’s spectacular Olympic opening ceremony from Beijing would probably agree what they saw was “unreal.” Turns out they would be right. First it was revealed that the Chinese officials–with the blessing of the Olympic Committee–faked part of the amazing fireworks that occurred during the ceremony. Now it has been revealed that the fakery didn’t stop there.
As reported on Breitbart.com and Telegraph.co.UK, the show’s musical director has admitted that the darling little Chinese girl who “sang” during the Olympic opening ceremony was not actually singing but actually miming. Chinese officials decided to place the girl front and center because the real singer was not considered attractive enough due to her buck teeth.
Pigtailed and precious little Lin Miaoke was apparently selected to appear because of her “cute” appearance. In reality she did not sing a single note.
Photographs of Lin, wearing a bright red “party dress” were published in numerous newspapers and websites all over the world. The official China Dailyhailed Lin as a rising star. The girl whose voice was actually heard by the Bird’s Nest crowd during the eye-catching and colorful ceremony was seven-year-old Yang Peiyi. Peiyi’s chubby face and buck teeth was given as the reason for her off-camera performance. Clearly, beauty is in the eye of the Beijing officials when it comes to duping a worldwide audience.
An unsuspecting audience looked on as Lin was believed to be performing the patriotic song “Ode to the Motherland” as China’s national flag was carried into the stadium.
An official with the ceremony cited “national interest” as the reason for the “Beauty and the Beast” shenanigans.
According to news reports, the final decision to stage the event with Lin lip-syncing to the other girl’s voice was made after a senior member of China’s ruling Communist Party politburo attended a rehearsal.
In trying to put their best foot forward Chinese officials have clearly tripped over their own tap-dancing and toying with a ceremony that should have been forever remembered as the best opening Olympic ceremony ever but is now turning out to be known for its trickery upon deceit upon vacuousness and vanity. Not exactly the “shining moment” Beijing had hoped for.
More faking unearthed by Chinese during Olympic opening ceremony: First fireworks, now child singing.
